Storage Garment Bags
We all have clothes that we wear only occasionally, or even once, but that we are not willing to part with for sentimental reasons. Old prom dresses, ball gowns and wedding dresses are too often left to languish in dusty closets or damp attics, ruining the fabrics with mildew or stress from improper storage. Cheap, flimsy plastic bags may cause additional staining as the fabric interacts with the gases given off by the plastic, which is not meant for long-term storage.
Storage garment bags are built to save and protect and organize your important clothing. For gowns of velvet, heavy satin or those made with beading, the proper storage bag is essential to prevent fabric stretching, seam splitting and bead loss. The right storage bag must be able to support the weight and shape of the outfit, prevent strain on seams and fabrics, and allow the fabric to remain aired and fresh. Storage garment bags should allow the free movement of air so that moisture does not build up and result in mildew stains.
Storage garment bags may be made of nylon, polyester, cotton, canvas or other breathable fabrics. They should be solidly constructed, with a combination of hanging and folding capabilities to handle bodices, skirts and trains. Some storage garment bags are available with internal gripping systems that hold many items of clothing without crushing or wrinkling them. Rubber clamps fit over the hangers, keeping clothes securely in place.
