Nylon Garment Bag

If you’re looking for a nylon garment bag, you won’t have to look far before realizing that this lightweight, easily waterproofed and simple-to-clean fabric is ideal for protecting your clothing across town or across the country. Nylon garment bags come in a variety of styles, ranging from simple garment bags for hanging your clothes neatly in storage to traveling garment bags complete with pockets, pouches, carrying straps, handles and rolling wheels.

Nylon garment bags are often described by a number followed by the word “denier”. The denier refers to the thickness of the nylon fiber: the thicker the fiber, the larger the number. When you are shopping for a nylon garment bag, make sure that the number of the denier relates to the functionality of the bag. For example, a nylon garment bag (or nylon-polyester blend, as many are) with a denier number of 200 is quite lightweight. You will notice that such garment bags can often be had for around $10. On the other hand, high-quality traveling garment bags will often have a denier count of 1100 or more, representing a thicker fiber and a more durable fabric. Some experts suggest that for a fairly durable garment bag, the denier should be at least 400, but for bags that will see a lot of wear or travel, 800 is preferable.

Nylon is a multi-functional fabric, which at times has been used in aircraft construction as well as in women’s hosiery. Two of its major advantages are its ability to withstand water and the fact that it dries more quickly than other fabrics. It tends to be very light and very strong: in fact, both Cordura and ballistic nylon are highly resistant to tears and punctures.

Nylon garment bags are usually coated with polyurethane and other materials to make them waterproof and stain resistant. They come in all styles—hanging, rolling, book-opening—and for all occasions, ranging from a quick trip in the car to a fur-star world cruise. This amazing fabric, which has supported bullet-proof vests as well as fine lingerie makes ideal luggage: light, strong and long-lasting.
